Eye candy – Matteo Scalera

Another great artist Matteo Scalera !
His style looks a bit like Humberto Ramos to me and that is a good thing 🙂 !!

He comes from Italy and his blog is written in Italian, that makes it hard to read ;), but for more convenience he also has a DeviantArt site with most of his drawings, take a look here

Eye candy – Christian Nauck

It has been a while since my last Eye candy post 🙂 But today I’ve found a new one !!

Let me introduce to you Christian Nauck ! He’s a comic artist from Germany ( actually not only comic art 😉 ) that I just discovered through the great art display site DeviantArt.

I don’t know Christian Nauck through any of his comics, but what I’ve seen on DeviantArt makes me feel sorry I haven’t seen any work so far. ( But that is all my own fault 😉 )

Just take a look at his gallery here.

Eye candy – Marko Djurdjevic

Marko Djurdjevic seems to be the guy who made the ‘American dream’ ( although he’s not from America 🙂 ) ! Getting discovered by the big comic publisher purely because of an evening drawing match with a friend over some marvel X-men characters… and thank the lord he has been discovered !!

I mean, just look at the detailed body work of all his characters, more like photographs, but still they have a fantasy look and feel ! The comic covers he brings are so inviting, that you will actually really buy the comic because of the superb drawing skills on the cover. That’s the main reason why I’m in a dilemma currently, because Marko has drawn some amazing covers for DareDevil and I hate to say this, but I don’t like the DareDevil comic concept very much… but his covers are just so stunning !! Damn you Marko 😉
For some reference material look at his MySpace page and Blog.

I don’t know why, but Marko’s art reminds me of Brom’s work, but the covers for the comics done by Marko are more vivid and less posed !

Eye candy – Chris Bachalo

How do you like your comic art ?
For me this is actually a difficult question… I very well know what I don’t like, but really explaining what would make a good comic design is not easy.
On thing is sure, I rather like a modern clean picture ! But on the other hand, small details for specific characters of background helps to create a good view on the current setting.

And with the current artist, Chris Bachalo, this is spot on ! Just the way a modern comic should look and feel. Clean, crisp and when needed an eye for detail.
I have to say though, that his style is very similar to Humberto Ramos, but that is a good sign 🙂

Eye candy – Aleksi Briclot

Some things have to grow unto you I guess… It’s like the drawings of this artist, Aleksi Briclot. He lives in France, Paris to be more precise, so that makes it special, because he’s not living in the USA and sets his mark on some major USA products ( but more later ) !

It’s actually difficult to say when I came in contact with Aleski’s art for the first time… this because after I got interested in his art, it seemed he had done some pieces I should have recognized. Let me explain. First time I got a good look, was when I read the trade paper back comic called Spawn – Simony and like I said in the beginning, I wasn’t hooked at first by the renderings… But after some rereading, my eyes were caught by the unique style Aleksi has drawing Spawn ! So I got interested more and after finding his work around the web, I noticed he had done some stuff for Magic the Gathering too !!
And that’s the catch, because this would imply that I should have seen his work before !! On one of the Magic cards I own.

But ok… enough about the weird happenings 😉
Just take a look at some of his beautiful work !!

Eye candy – Don Figueroa

Robots… they’ve always fascinated me ! First encounter when I was young, was with those 80ies cartoons… like Grendizer for instance.
But the one series that was always around was the one called Transformers and yes they kicked ass :).
Ok youth sentiment here.

But the Transformers franchise got passed me without any notice… not something that happens very often, I liked the series, but wasn’t that all to much interested in the toys for boys back then.

But behold, with the release of the movie last year, my interest got kindled again !!
So much so, that I took up some comics that are about these fine robots. And I have to say, there is one young guy that can actually bring them alive on paper !
I’m talking about Don Figueroa. In my opinion he is actually a reference for getting the transformers looks and feel on paper the right way !

For me it would almost seem impossible to draw live metallic robots, but he does it in such a way it’s almost believable. Nothing but admiration for his style.

Just look for yourself 😉

Eye Candy – Ryan Benjamin

Here is a guy who is climbing up to stardom ( my personal view 😉 ) !
Ryan Benjamin is a very talented person, who draws amazing characters. I just love his work on the Star Wars series… it’s just very realistic.

On the other hand his style also fits very nice with the premium A list comic super heroes, like Batman ! It seems he is busy with some Batman issue, but I can’t find any reference for it… except a preview on his deviantart page !

For more info just check out his own website here !

Movies, toys and posters II

Well well well… the people over at Spawn.com ( Todd McFarlane Toys ) have done it again ( as seen here ) !

Again they are presenting an old time favourite in 3D ! This time it’s the original movie poster of Rocky ! What a classic and again one for the wish list ;). More info here

They’ve also done something similar with their own Spawn comic line ! The cover of Spawn issue 30 has been made available as action figure, but now it comes complete with the surrounding attributes to recreate the cover. I think I have to reserve a small room at our house to accommodate all these items 🙂 ! More info here
